Wildlife Photography by George West

The photographs in the slideshow are examples of ones I have taken in the past few years. Most close-ups and wide-angle shots were taken with a Canon 10D using either a Canon 35mm to 135mm f/3.5 – 5.6 IS lens or a 100mm f/2.8 macro lens, the latter usually on a tripod.

In 2011 I switched to a Canon 7D body but am using the same lenses. Most bird photos were taken using a Canon 1D Mark II camera with a 300mm f/2.8 IS lens and a 1.4x teleconverter, hand held. As of March 2011, I am using the 7D with a Canon 100-400mm f/4.5 - 5.6 IS lens as it is easier to carry in the field. Images are processed using PhotoMechanic and PhotoShop.

I have placed several hundred photographs on a commercial web site: www.canstockphoto.com. You can view all the photos and purchase any one of them if you wish. Along with the photos are about 1,200 drawings, paintings, and computer art as referenced in the Wildlife Illustration page on this web site. Type the subject name in the search field using actual bird names or any of a number of key words to find the photo or drawing you are looking for.
